Schoolboy’s awareness prevents train accident in Moulvibazar

Nearly 500 passengers saved

An intercity train with nearly 500 passengers narrowly escaped a possible train accident last night following the awareness of a schoolboy in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar.

The Chattogram-bound train Udyan Express escaped a fatal accident as the schoolboy saw a broken fishplate on the railway track in Eidgah Tila under Shamshernagar union of the upazila and informed villagers about it.

The boy, Abul Hossain, is a resident of Eidgah Tila and a class IX student of Kamudpur High School in the upazila, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting a station master.

Abul Hossain told our correspondent that he saw a damaged fishplate last night while he was returning home and informed the villagers.

Faruk Ahmed, a member of Shamshernagar Union Parishad, said after being informed by the boy, he notified the matter Kabir Ahmed, station master of Shamshernagar Railway Station and the officials of the railways’ public works department in Srimangal.

A rescue team led by Monir Hossain, deputy assistant engineer of the department, rushed to the spot and replaced another fishplate on the rail track around 11:00pm, said station master Kabir Ahmed.

The train passengers escaped the possible accident following the awareness of Abul Hossain, said the station master.

Movement of train on the route remained suspended for half-an-hour due to the repair work, he added.
