No gas in Brahmanbaria municipality area
Gas supply -- both residential and commercial -- in Brahmanbaria municipality area was suspended since last night due to a technical glitch.
Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited said there was no gas in the area since 11:00pm last night due to a technical problem caused by the Hefajat-e-Islam mayhem.
Md Rabiul Haque, deputy general manager of the gas distribution company, told The Daily Star that Bakhrabad is working to fix the problem but he could not say when they will be able to resume the gas supply.
Bakhrabad has 24,000 official clients who have hundreds of tenants. Due to the sudden suspension of gas supply, they are suffering since last night, Rabiul said.
Many of the residents were cooking on clay stoves using firewood. Moreover, no hotels and restaurants have opened yet due to gas crisis, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.
Hafeza Begum, a resident of the municipality area, said, "Since there is no gas from last night, we could not make breakfast for my six-member family. Later, I arranged a makeshift stove using bricks and started preparing lunch."
Md Tarique Hossain Jewel, a lawyer who is a resident of a building at Fulbaria, told this correspondent that no one could say why there is no gas. The people are suffering immensely, he said.
Brahmanbaria turned into a battlefield during yesterday's hartal that left three people dead.
Police stations, public offices, offices of the ruling party, and buses had been torched and vandalised in Brahmanbaria. Even a train and a temple where Dol Purnima puja was being held did not escape destruction.
