Man held for raping physically challenged girl

Police arrested a man yesterday in connection with a case for raping a physically challenged girl in Saltha upazila on Friday.

The law enforcers detained Rashid Munshi, 50, a resident of Nawpara village in the upazila, early yesterday after victim's father filed a rape case with Saltha Police Station on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, police produced the arrestee before a Faridpur court yesterday afternoon that sent him to jail.

According to the case statement, the father of the 23-year-old physically challenged victim was in Faridpur town and her mother was grazing their goats in a nearby field keeping their daughter alone at home on Friday.

Taking advantage of the situation, Rashid lured the girl to his house and raped her.

When the matter came to light, some local influential people tried to hide the incident but failed.

Confirming the matter, Officer in Charge (Investigation) of Saltha Police Station Subrata Goldar said the victim was sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for medical test, he added.
