Couple dies after inhaling toxic gas in Faridpur

A man and his wife died after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a septic tank in Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur today.
The deceased were identified as Miraj Hawlader, 45, and his wife Chaina Begum, 35, of Charbrahmandi village in the upazila, said Sadarpur union parishad chairman Shahidul Islam.
Miraj, a Saudi expatriate, came home two months back on leave, our Faridpur correspondent reports quoting the UP chairman.
Miraj got inside the septic tank to clear it around 10:00am and fainted within a few seconds after inhaling toxic gas in the tank, said chairman Shahidul.
Getting no response from Miraj for some time, Chaina also got down in the septic tank to rescue her husband but fainted, said the chairman.
Later, their son Hridoy, 18, along with the help of some neighbours, rescued his parents and took them to Sadarpur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared the couple dead, said Shahidul.
Rubana Ahmed, medical officer of the health complex, told our correspondent that the couple died after inhaling toxic gas inside the septic tank.
