Circus elephant dies in Lalmonirhat
An elephant of Dhaka’s The Lion Circus died of heat stroke due to the hot spell prevailing for couple of days in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat.
The 22-year-old elephant named Chan suffered from the heatstroke after walking through the areas of the upazila headquarters all the day, our local correspondent reports.
It fell sick and collapsed on the ground of Alia Madrasa at Kamalbari around 4:30pm, reports our local correspondent.
The animal was taken to the area for performing at the circus during Lalmonirhat Trade Fair to be started on September 12, said Manager of The Lion Circus Santosh Kumar Sarker.
Chan was among the three elephants brought in Lalmonirhat due to the trade fair, the manager said.
Aditmari Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Mosharaf Hossain confirmed that Chan died due to current hot spell swelling for last 10 days.
According to Rangpur Met Office, it was recorded 34-35 Degree Celsius temperature in Lalmonirhat today.
