Two cases filed over attack on Hindu homes in Sunamganj
Two cases were filed in connection with the attack carried out by supporters of Hefajat-e-Islam on houses of Hindus in Sunamganj's Noagaon village yesterday morning over a Facebook post.
Both cases were recorded with Shalla Police Station.
The first one was recorded around 4:30pm, around 30 hours after the attack took place, our Sylhet correspondent reports.
Nazmul Haque, officer-in-charge of the local police station, said, "We are not disclosing name of the case plaintiff and the names of the accused for the sake of investigation.
"We have already started investigation and are conducting drives to arrest the culprits. Soon we will reveal the update," the official said.
Rapid Action Battalion Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun visited the scene and assured the villagers of arresting the attackers.
Several hundred supporters of Hefajat-e-Islam attacked, vandalised and looted at least 75 Hindu houses in Sunamganj's Noagaon village yesterday.
Seventy-five houses were damaged in the attack, police said.
