Attack on ex-BNB MP's house in Laxmipur

Awami League men allegedly attacked the house of a former lawmaker from Laxmipur-1 constituency, M Nazim Uddin, at Poietpur village in Ramganj upazila early yesterday.

Nazim Uddin, also president of Ramganj upazila unit of BNP, made the allegation at a press briefing at his residence at noon.

"A group of local Awami League men attacked my house early today as I've been working in my area with my party leaders over the upcoming union parishad election,

Nazim Uddin alleged.

He further alleged that the attackers fired several shots towards his room in a bid to kill him. "Though I escaped unhurt, the windows of my private car parked inside the house were damaged," Nazim Uddin added.

Mahbubur Rahman Bahar, general secretary of Ramganj upazila BNP and Giasuddin Polash, president of the upazila unit of Jubo Dal, among others, were present at the press briefing.

Contacted, Ramganj upazila AL president M Shahjahan rejected the allegation made by the BNP leader.

M Solaiman Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Ramganj Police Station, said they are looking into the matter.
