2 killed in train-truck collision at Rajbari
Two people were killed today and one was critically injured as a train of Modhumati Express collided with a soil-laden truck on the Rajbari-Bhanga railway at Basantapur union of Rajbari Sadar upazila.
The deceased were helpers of the truck Palash Sheikh (30) of Char Khankhanapur village and Milon Sardar (22) of Sardarpara, both from Rajbari Sadar. The injured is Bablu Mollah (55), from Bhabanipur village of Basantapur Union, reports our Rajbari correspondent quoting police.
Locals rescued them and took them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared the two dead. Bablu is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said police.
The rail connection on the route was halted for three hours after the accident occurred around 3:15pm today.
"The engine of the train was damaged. It was removed with another engine brought from Rajbari. Legal action will be taken regarding the accident, as per law," said Masud Alam, officer-in-charge of Rajbari Railway Police Station.
