Launch catches fire, passengers safe
A Dhaka-bound launch with 200 passengers aboard caught fire on the Meghna River at Lagnimarachar under Chandpur Sadar upazila yesterday.
No casualty was, however, reported in the incident.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit at a cabin on the third floor of the vessel 'MV Tutul' at around 10:30am and spread to an adjacent cabin, said Shah Alam, supervisor of the launch.
Seeing the flames, staffs of the launch rushed to the spot and doused the blaze, he added.
All the passengers were rescued safely. They were later sent to Dhaka by another launch named MV Bogdadia-9, said Mosharraf Hosain, in-charge of Chandpur River Police.
The officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) visited the spot.
