His lawyer ends closing argument

The state appointed defence lawyer for BNP Senior Vice-chairman Tarique Rahman today concluded his closing arguments and sought acquittal of his client from the charges in connection with the August 21 grenade attack case of 2004.

Advocate AKM Akhter Hossain today, for the second day, completed his arguments and said that the charges brought against his client, fugitive accused Tarique Rahman, were not proved and appealed to the court to acquit Tarique from the charges.

Judge Shahed Nuruddin of Speedy Trial Tribunal-1of Dhaka, set up adjacent to Dhaka Central Jail, heard the arguments.

During the arguments, Akhter Hossain sighted different contradictions between the statements of 19 prosecution witnesses and the confessional statements of militant outfit Harkatul Jihad al Islami (Huji) chief Mufti Abdul Hannan and said the prosecution has completely failed to prove the charges against his client.
