AL leader shot dead

A local Awami League (AL) leader was shot dead by unidentified criminals at Baliadanga area in Sadar upazila of Jessore district yesterday.

The deceased, Mosharraf Hossain, 47, was general secretary of Ichhali union unit of the ruling party.

Officer-in-Charge Enamul Haque of Jessore Kotwali Police Station said a gang of unknown criminals opened fire on Mosharraf, also the chairman of Ichhali Union Parishad (UP), while he was going to the UP office from his house in the town, riding a motorbike at around 11:00am.

Locals took him to Jessore Medical College Hospital where he died soon after admission.
