2 boys drown in Keraniganj canal

Rescue divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence have recovered the bodies of two schoolboys who went missing yesterday afternoon while taking a dip in a canal in Rajendrapur area of Keraniganj, on the outskirts of Dhaka city.

The deceased are Sifat, 13, a sixth-grader, and Jihad, 14, an eighth-grader, both hailing from Baghoirnagar village, Mozammel Haque, a sub-inspector of South Keraniganj Police Station told The Daily Star.

The two were swimming in the canal around 2:00pm yesterday when they were washed away by strong current, the police official said.

Immediately after their missing was reported, divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence started their search and rescue operations. The divers recovered body of Sifat around 6:00pm yesterday and that of Jihad around 9:00am this morning, SI Mozammel added.
