India returnee tests Covid-19 positive in N’ganj, house locked down
Local administration in Narayanganj today locked down the house of a man, who tested positive for Covid-19 after his return from India.
Confirming the news, Rupganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shah Nusrat Jahan said the man is a resident of Tarabo area of Rupganj and he was put in a room of his house for 14 days of quarantine. His family members will also remain in isolation in the house during this time, the UNO said.
The man has no passport and entered the country illegally through Akhaura, UNO Nusrat said quoting locals.
His test returned positive for Covid-19 but his family members tested negative in the morning today, the UNO said adding "We put the house under lockdown and deployed policemen there. We have also given phone numbers to them so that they can contact us if there is any need."
When asked about the man's health, UNO Nusrat said his health condition is good. He has been given treatment but he has no symptoms of Covid-19.
Quoiting his family, Tarabo municipality 6 no. ward Councilor Md Mahbubur Rahman Jakaria Molla said, "The man had been working in a garment factory in India's Chennai for three years."
He always moved between India and Bangladesh through the assistance of agents, he said.
When the Covid-19 situation in India worsened, he came to Akhaura border by a flight and later entered Brahmanbaria through the border on May 8. Since May 9 he has been staying at his home, councilor Mahbubur said.
