Woman burnt in acid attack

A woman suffered burn injuries in an acid attack carried out allegedly by her aunt over a property dispute in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi early yesterday.

Sharmeen Sultana, 28, daughter of freedom fighter late Siraj Uddin, is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

On Thursday, Sharmeen and her husband, Masud Rana, went to her uncle's house in Dotter Gau village to resolve a property dispute, said Syeduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Shibpur Police Station, quoting family members.

Around midnight, while she was sleeping, her aunt, Farida Yasmeen, threw acid on her, said the OC, quoting the husband, who was outside then.

She was admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, and later shifted to DMCH.

The OC said necessary legal action would be taken in this regard.
