Five people including four of a family sustained burn injuries after a water reservoir exploded at a building in Pallabi area of Dhaka city this morning.

The victims are: Hasan, Yakub Ali, 70, owner of the building, his wife Hasinara, 60, their niece Yasmeen, 30, and three-year-old Ruhi, daughter of Yasmeen.

The five were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) burn unit. All the victims are in critical condition, said Partha Sangkar Paul, a resident surgeon of the burn unit.

The blast took place on the ground floor of a five-storied building in Pallabi-12 this morning, said Dadon Fakir, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station.

The reason of the water tank explosion could not be known immediately.
