Sketch leads to arrest of child rapist in Dhaka
With the assistance of a professional sketch artist, law enforcers have managed to arrest the rapist of a six-year-old from Dhaka's Kadamtoli area, police said today.
Tutul (20) went into hiding soon after raping a child on the rooftop of a five-storey building in Kadamtoli's Muradnagar area on April 25, said Shah Alam, assistant commissioner (Shyampur Zone) of DMP.
The AC said Tutul, a resident of Mugda area, used to visit his maternal grandfather and aunt's houses in Kadamtoli area.
On April 25, he took the child to a building, saying that her father was calling her, the police official said.
After the child was rescued from the building, her father filed a case with the local police station, he added.
Later, police collected 16 CCTV footages from nearby areas and one partially shows a man wearing a mask standing in front of the building holding the hand of the victim.
Since he was wearing a mask, it was not possible to identify him, the AC said.
As per the suggestion of Deputy Commissioner of Wari Division, Shah Iftekhar Ahmed, police sought help from a professional artist for making a sketch of the alleged rapist and made 100 posters with the drawing.
A local identified him from the poster and disclosed his identity.
Later, a team of police conducted a six-hour drive and arrested the culprit, who later admitted to his crime, the police official said.
The victim was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
