Ershad’s condition improves
Physical condition of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad -- undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital at the moment -- has improved but he is not out of danger yet, JP Acting Chairman GM Quader said yesterday.
“Doctors said that his condition has improved 25 percent in the last 24 hours. But he is not out of danger yet,” GM Quader said at a meeting with party leaders from Barishal and Khulna divisions at a community centre in the capital.
Eighty-nine years old Ershad, also leader of the opposition in parliament, who has been ailing from multiple health complications for about nine months now, was admitted to Dhaka CMH on Wednesday morning as he had fever.
“He is undergoing treatment for acute knee pain, liver complications, low hemoglobin, and high bilirubin,” said Ershad’s Press Secretary Shunil Shuvo Roy on Wednesday while talking to this correspondent.
Quader, Ershad’s younger brother, yesterday said, “It’ll take some time for him to recover.”
Meanwhile, participating in a discussion on the proposed budget for 2019-20 fiscal, opposition chief whip Moshiur Rahman Ranga told the parliament that Ershad’s condition is not stable enough to take him abroad for better treatment.
Due to his poor health, Ershad on April 6 reinstated Quader as party chairman in his absence and a day later, he donated his assets to a trust.
Since formation of the current parliament, Ershad could attend the maiden session only once.
The five-time MP flew to Singapore’s National University Hospital for medical treatment on January 20 and returned to the country on February 4.
