Drug peddler chased down in Dhaka: Rab
Law enforcers claimed to have chased down an alleged drug trafficker in Dhaka’s Taltola.
Arrestee Asad Mia, 29, driver of a ride-hailing service, was shot during the filmy-style chase that involved car chase and foot race, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) said.
Asad used to carry shipments of Phensedyl from Hemayetpur, Savar and deliver them to Dhaka, Lt Col Ashique Billah, commanding officer of Rab-2, told The Daily Star.
Based on a tip-off, Rab men were waiting for the drug peddler at Amin Bazar and were soon involved in a car chase that ended up in Taltola area of Mirpur.
“Two shots were fired on Rab members. Rab also fired some rounds. He was driving like a mad horse and hit several CNG autorickshaws throughout the road,” the Rab officer said.
“He entered a dead-end road at Taltola and was forced to leave his car and make a run. We caught him with bullet injuries with the help of locals,” he said.
Currently, the arrestee is undergoing treatment at Suhrawardy Hospital.
A pistol with two rounds of bullets was recovered from the possession of the driver. Also, a good amount of banned Phensedyl syrup was seized from his car.
