Conference on higher education at ULAB

A two-day conference, titled “In Pursuit of Quality in Higher Education: Challenges Ahead” was held at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) auditorium in the capital’s Dhanmondi on August 22-23, says a press release.
Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning of ULAB hosted the programme where Prof Kazi Shahidullah, chairman of University Grants Commission, was present as chief guest.
Prof Vincent Chang, vice chancellor of Brac University, was present as keynote speaker. ULAB Vice Chancellor Prof HM Jahirul Haque presented welcome speech.
Emphasising quality education, the UGC chairman said lack of quality is a major crisis in higher education. It exists both in public and private universities, he added. “We have no quantitative problems.”
On the first day of the conference, Prof M Omar Rahman, vice-chancellor of Independent University, Bangladesh; Prof Syeda Tahmina Akhtar, director of Institute of Education and Research at Dhaka University; Prof Imran Rahman, dean of the ULAB School of Business and special advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees; and Prof Rezwan Khan, director, Institute of Engineering and Scientific Research, United International University, participated in the plenary session with Prof Imran Rahman in the chair.
Around 50 scholars from home and abroad participated at the conference.
