6 hurt in Dhaka 'gas leak explosion'

At least six people suffered burns in an explosion reportedly caused by gas line leak in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area this evening.

The victims were identified as Billal Hossain, 35, Naima Huq, 46, her son Nayeem, 7, Munayem, 28, Hosne Ara, 53, Laili, 35, said Abdullah Khan, assistant sub-inspector of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Police Outpost.

They were undergoing treatment at the burn and plastic surgery unit of DMCH, the police official also said.

Billal was working on a gas line at the rooftop of a five-storey building in Mohammadia Housing Society of Mohamammadpur area around 9:15pm when the explosion occurred leaving them injured, he added.

He suffered 85 percent burns and his condition was stated to be critical, hospital sources said.
