Man held with 9.84kgs gold at Dhaka airport

Customs intelligence today detained a man along with 84 gold bars, weighing around 9.84 kilogrammes, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka early today.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials caught Abul Hossain, 30, a resident of Comilla, with the gold around 5:15am, said Tarek Mahmud, assistant director of Customs Intelligence.

He arrived from Qatar by a Qatar airways flight, QR 634, the assistant director said.

Abul Hossain was carrying the bars, worth around TK 4.5 crore, in two packets strapped to his waist when he was searched while passing the green panel at the airport, the customs official added.

Besides, gold ornaments weighing about 100 grams were also seized from his possession, Mahmud said.
