JU teacher sacked for sexually harassing students

A lecturer of Jahangirnagar University was sacked yesterday for sexually harassing 22 female students who had filed a complaint on September 14, 2013.
AKM Anisuzzaman of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems had been suspended on August 23, 2014 centring the complaint.
The victims, of the same session in the department, had stated that Anisuzzaman used to frequently make unwanted approaches verbally and physically at exam halls, Prof Rasheda Akhtar told The Daily Star.
Prof Rasheda heads the anti-sexual harassment cell with which the complaint was filed by the victims and their parents.
The cell conducted investigations and it found the allegations to be true. Anisuzzaman was suspended following its recommendations. The cell submitted its findings to another probe committee led by Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam.
Taking into consideration the probe reports of the two bodies, the JU Syndicate, chaired by Prof Farzana, decided on sacking the lecturer.
JU Syndicate member Prof Kamrul Ahsan Titu said, “The syndicate accepted the recommendations of the bodies, and steps were taken against the accused according to the university act 1973.”
