Cricketer Shahadat gets bail till March 31 on health ground
The High Court yesterday granted bail to cricketer Shahadat Hossain in connection with a case filed for torturing his 11-year-old domestic help.
The court granted the bail till March 31 on health ground following a petition filed by Shahadat seeking bail in the case.
In the petition the cricketer stated that he needs to go to Australia for treatment of injury in his knee, Deputy Attorney General Shiakh AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir told The Daily Star.
However, the government will move an appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against the HC order and Shahadat would get released from jail if the SC did not stay the order, Kabir added.
A Dhaka court on October 5, sent the temporarily suspended national cricketer to jail after he surrendered before it seeking bail.
His surrender came two days after police arrested his wife Jesmine Jahan Nrittya in one of her relatives' house in the capital's Malibagh in connection with the case.
Jesmine secured bail from the Dhaka court in the case on December 1.
Mentionable, Mahfuza Akhtar Happy, the domestic help, brought the allegation of torture by Shahadat and his wife on September 6. Later, the case was filed against the couple.
Following the allegation, Bangladesh Cricket Board suspended Shahadat on September 13.
