Cops allowed to quiz Rizvi at jail gate
A Dhaka court yesterday sent back BNP Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed to jail after rejecting both his remand and bail petitions in two arson cases filed with Motijheel Police Station in January.
But the court allowed the investigators to interrogate the BNP leader at the jail gate within two workdays. Police had sought a 20-day remand.
Rizvi was shown arrested on July 25 after police found his involvement in torching vehicles before BASIC Bank Bhaban on Toyenbi Circular Road and Wapda auditorium on January 8 and 19, even though he was not a FIR-named accused.
CASE AGAINST FAKHRUL
Another Dhaka court yesterday adjourned till August 26 hearing on charge framing against BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 25 others in an arson case filed with Paltan Police Station on March 2, 2013.
The order came after lawyers for Fakhrul and 16 other accused submitted separate petitions seeking adjournment.
Two of the accused -- Abdullah Al Noman and Hamidur Rahman -- were present while seven including Azizul Bari Helal are absconding.
CASE AGANST KHALEDA
Another Dhaka court yesterday again asked officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station to submit by August 27 a report of a case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for calling the ruling Awami League "a party of atheists."
The order came after police failed to submit any report on the issue yesterday.
