BCC staffs observe work abstention demanding arrears
Barisal City Corporation (BCC) staffs started an indefinite work abstention programme on Saturday night demanding their five months’ arrears.
Some 200 demonstrators yesterday locked all the departments at BCC office and also staged rally before the office building.
Dipak Lal Mridha, conservancy officer, said they would continue their strike until they get full payment of their arrears, including 30-month provident fund.
Pro-BNP Mayor Ahwasan Habib Kamal said deployment of surplus manpower during the tenure of his late pro-AL predecessor created a fund shortage but they were trying to solve the problem as soon as possible.
At present, 2,100 staffs, including 500 permanent employees, are serving at BCC.
Only emergency and cleaning services were open yesterday.
