The police chief said 293 of them, however, were acquitted by courts, reports the Bangla daily the Prothom Alo

The IGP was addressing a press briefing at the Police Headquarters on the occasion of marking Police Week from January 26.

“None should be tortured or harassed if anyone violates laws. Police only can take legal steps against them,” he said in reply to a query from the journalists.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Police Week on January 26 at 10:00am in Dhaka. A total of 102 police members will be awarded in recognition of their courage and services.
