453 Ctg BNP men charged over 2015 violence

Police today pressed charges against 453 BNP leaders and activists of Chittagong in a violence case of January 2015, on the first anniversary of 2014 parliamentary election.
Among those charged are Chittagong city BNP president Shahadat Hosen and BNP central leader Aslam Chowdhury.
Three separate charge sheets were submitted in the single case, as the case was filed under three separate clauses of the penal code, Nirmalendu Chakraborty, additional deputy commissioner, told our local staff correspondent.
According to the case, on January 5 of 2015, at least 20 people including three policemen and a shop employee were injured during a clash between police and activists of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in Chittagong.
Police detained over 250 people raiding the city BNP office and its adjacent areas and recovered 15 petrol bombs.
On the same day, violent clashes across the country had left at least four people dead and over 300 injured over the first anniversary of the controversial January-5 parliamentary polls.
