A Dhaka court today placed five Jamaat-e-Islami men, who were arrested in Banasree area yesterday, on a 10-day remand each in two separate cases filed over creating anarchy and laundering money.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Yusuf Hossain passed the order after Mostafizur Rahman, inspector (operation) of Rampura Police Station, produced them before the court today with a 20-day remand prayer for each.

Rampura police arrested Giasuddin, chief accounts officer of Jamaat central committee and also a Rokon of the party, and his four associates from Dhaka’s Banasree along with Tk 1 crore yesterday.

Several passports and organisational books were also recovered.

The other arrestees are: Aminur Rahman, 57, Osman Gani, 41, Lutfur Rahman and Shahadatur Rahman Sohel, 43.

Later, two separate cases -- one under the Anti-Terrorism Act and another under the Money Laundering Prevention Act – were filed against them with Rampura Police Station.
