Notre Dame College fosters scientific curiosity at National Earth and Space Summit

For three days, students from across Bangladesh gathered at Notre Dame College, immersing themselves in a celebration of science, technology, and discovery at the 8th National Earth and Space Summit (NESS).

The event, hosted by the Notre Dame Eco and Space Club, drew nearly 2,000 participants from more than 60 institutions, reinforcing its status as a leading platform for young scientific minds.

Supported by Western Engineering and Bata, the summit featured a range of competitions and activities, from quizzes and debates to Olympiads spanning ecology, earth science, and astronomy. Among the highlights was an astrophotography session led by Zubuyer Kaolin, which attracted close to 1,000 attendees. His presentation, accompanied by the Photosphere Exhibition, offered a rare glimpse into the cosmos, captivating students and educators alike.

Adding to the excitement, students from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) unveiled Bangladesh's first-ever Formula Student car, a milestone moment for engineering enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the MICB Scientific Society, the summit's telescope partner, provided a hands-on experience in solar observation, allowing attendees to view the sun through a specialized telescope.

"The energy and engagement we witnessed were truly inspiring," said Md. Nazmul Hassan, moderator of the Notre Dame Eco and Space Club. "This summit is about igniting curiosity and fostering a passion for scientific exploration among students."

Notre Dame College Principal Dr. Fr. Hemanto Pius Rozario echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the need to invest in STEM education. "It is essential to nurture young minds in astronomy and ecology," he said. "Their passion and discoveries will shape the future of scientific progress."

With support from sponsors like Savoy Ice Cream and Dot Internet, which provided refreshments and internet access, the event ensured an immersive and enriching experience for participants.
