AIUB holds 22nd Convocation, confers degrees to 2,547 graduates

The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) held its 22nd Convocation on Saturday at its permanent campus in Kuril, Dhaka.
The ceremony, presided over by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Adviser to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology, saw the conferment of degrees to 2,547 graduates. He presided over the event on behalf of Mohammed Shahabuddin, President and Chancellor of AIUB.
Prof. Dr. SMA Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, attended as the special guest, while renowned writer and scholar Prof. Dr. Salimullah Khan, a recipient of the 2024 Bangla Academy Literary Award, served as the Convocation Speaker. AIUB Chairman and Founder Member Nadia Anwar, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman also addressed the event.
In recognition of academic excellence, AIUB awarded medals to outstanding students: three Chancellor's Gold Medals, 20 Dr. Anwarul Abedin Leadership Awards, 23 Vice-Chancellor's Awards, 79 Summa Cum Laude (Gold Medals), 128 Magna Cum Laude (Silver Medals), and 39 Cum Laude (Bronze Medals).
Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed congratulated the graduates, emphasising the transformative power of education. "One can earn money without education, but with education, no one can take it away from you," he said, highlighting that knowledge and experience are invaluable assets. He also underscored the importance of sincerity and dedication among teachers, thanking AIUB for maintaining high academic standards.
Prof. Dr. SMA Faiz echoed the sentiments, stating, "Everyone can judge between good and bad; however, only those enlightened by education can judge wisely."
Convocation Speaker Prof. Dr. Salimullah Khan urged graduates to take inspiration from history to lead society towards justice, liberation, and freedom. "A university is never private in society; it is the property of the nation," he remarked.
Addressing the graduates, AIUB Chairman Nadia Anwar reassured them of the university's unwavering support, saying, "This isn't the end; it's just the beginning. No matter where life takes you, AIUB will cheer you on, celebrate your wins, and support you when you need it."
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam expressed pride in the graduates' accomplishments, acknowledging the role of parents in their success. "On this occasion of happiness and achievement, I pray to Almighty Allah to guide you on the right path to your ultimate success," he said.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, in his vote of thanks, extended gratitude to students, parents, and guests for their participation, making the event a memorable one.
The ceremony was attended by AIUB Founding Members Dr. Hasanul A. Hasan and Mr. Ishtiaque Abedin, as well as members of the Board of Trustees, Syndicate, Academic Council, Treasurer, Deans, Registrar, university officials, UGC representatives, students, families, and members of the media.
