Govt won't raise fertiliser prices: agriculture minister
Agriculture Minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque today said the government has no plan to raise the prices of fertiliser to maintain agricultural production.
"The prices of fertiliser will not increase and the government will ensure that the farmers get enough fertiliser. We won't allow any crisis to be created over fertiliser for the continuation of food production," he said.
The minister said this while talking to reporters after attending the meeting of 'National Coordination and Advisory Committee on Fertiliser' at the secretariat in the city, said a press release.
Abdur Razzaque said the government will take measures so that the farmers would not face any harassment.
"If they (farmers) face any harassment regarding fertiliser, we will see poor crop production," he added.
Razzaque informed that the government has set the demand of 68.42 lakh tones of fertiliser for the fiscal 2023-24.
There is a demand of 27 lakh tonnes of urea fertiliser while 16 lakh tonnes of DAP fertiliser in the fiscal year 2023-24, he added.
Besides, there is a demand of 7.5 lakh tonnes of TSP fertiliser and nine lakh tonnes of MOP fertiliser, he mentioned.
