The government has imposed a 22-day ban on hilsa fishing from October 4 to October 25 during the main breeding season.
During this time, selling, marketing, buying, transportation, stocking or exchange of hilsa will be prohibited across the country.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Task Force Committee on Hilsa Resource Development chaired by Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim at Matsya Bhaban in Dhaka today.
For the sake of safe breeding of hilsa, catching all kinds of fish will also be prohibited at this time, said a press release of the ministry.
