Biman crew honoured for safe landing after losing wheel mid-flight

The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism today honoured three Biman Bangladesh Airlines staff members for safely landing a passenger flight that lost a wheel shortly after take-off from Cox's Bazar.
Captain JSMM Billah, First Officer Zayed Tajim, and cabin crew member Jamal Uddin were recognised by Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin at an event held at Balaka Bhaban in Kurmitola, according to a press statement.
Flight BG436, a Dash-8 aircraft carrying 71 passengers, lost a left-side rear wheel moments after departing from Cox's Bazar Airport at 2:19pm on Friday.
Despite the mid-air emergency, the aircraft landed safely at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport.
Commending the crew's professionalism and calm response, the adviser called their actions a courageous effort, while calling for heightened caution in future to avoid such untoward incidents, the statement said.
Following the award ceremony, the adviser also attended a presentation on Biman's preparedness for ground handling operations at the new third terminal of Dhaka airport.
He emphasised the need for timely and proper completion of the construction work.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasreen Jahan and Biman Managing Director Shafiqur Rahman were also present at the event.
