A central-level Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader has been suspended and another served a show-cause notice over allegedly harassing and demeaning a fellow female leader on social networking website Facebook.

Liton Mahmud, deputy secretary of hospitality affairs of BCL central unit, was supended temporarily while Jashimuddin hall BCL unit President Mehedi Hasan Rony was served with a seven-day show-cause notice.

“We have taken the action as we recieved complains of breaching party code of conduct against the duo,” BCL president Badiuzzaman Sohag said.

Rony uploaded a picture on his Facebook wall last Saturday that a female leader of BCL found offensive.

As the female leader and her followers criticised Rony for posting such pictures, some followers of Rony posted comments that lambasted the female leader’s stance.

Later, the female leader along with her followers brought out a torch procession Monday evening on campus under the banner of “DU General Students” demanding action against those who harras females.

Meanwhile, Liton posted on Facebook yesterday urging his friends to stay alert from ‘masked women’.

The female leader and Liton engaged in a verbal altercation at Modhur Canteen this afternoon, which resulted in the BCL leader’s suspension.
