SC poises BNP’s Tuku, Dulu in limbo again

Candidacy of BNP leaders Ruhul KuddusTalukder Dulu and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku are in limbo, yet once again, with a suspension order.

The Supreme Court today stayed the High Court’s approval on their candidacy for a day in response to appeals filed by the Election Commission.

Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, chamber judge of the Appellate Division, passed the order and forwarded the matter for a full bench hearing tomorrow.

It comes down to the apex court ruling if they can run in the general election of December 30, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star.

Yesterday, the High Court cleared the two BNP leaders, convicted in cases and sentenced, to run for the elections from their respective constituencies.

The Election Commission filed the appeals against the High Court orders today.
