Two run over, killed by bus in city

A visually impaired man and a woman were killed after a BRTC double-decker bus hit them while they were crossing a road in the capital's Airport area late Wednesday night.

The victims are Mujibur Rahman, 45, and Julekha Begum, 35. They lived in Tongi and used to collect alms together, police said.

Kamal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station, said the Uttara-bound bus hit them at speed while they were crossing the road near the VIP gate of the airport around 11:30pm, leaving both of them seriously injured.

They were taken to the Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors declared them dead. Later, the bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsies.

The bodies were handed over to their families last night.

Police detained the bus driver Ainul Haque and seized the bus.
