Long-term economic plan for realising socialist goals

CABINET MEETS
The Cabinet today meets for about two hours. The cabinet meeting presided over by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is understood to have discussed several issues including distribution of food and other essentials, and rehabilitation plan.
FIRST ANNUAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN DRAFTED
Planning Commission has prepared a draft of the annual development plan, which is the first of its kind after the liberation of Bangladesh. It will be soon placed before the cabinet for approval. Urgent development projects, reconstruction and rehabilitation are the three main pillars of the development plan.
The government has also decided to hold an economic conference in October, 1972 to discuss its long-term economic plan. A panel of experts will be formed who will prepare policy reports on the draft of the long-term plan, and the policy reports will be presented at the conference. The government will seek opinion of the public on the recommendations of the conference. The main goal of the long-term plan will be to achieve socialism keeping in consideration the social and economic reality of Bangladesh.
BANK ROBBERY IN THE CAPITAL
In a broad daylight robbery, six unidentified men loot Tk 42,000 at gunpoint from a branch of Janata Bank near Dhaka Medical College today. The local police station is only 200 yards away from the bank.
25 HOARDERS ARRESTED
The police today arrest 25 hoarders in a sudden raid in Kushtia and recover huge amount of essential goods. The anti-hoarding operations are run following Bangabandhu's ultimatum to hoarders to return stocked goods to market.
