8th grader 'raped' in reserve forest

Two suspects absconding

An 8th grader was allegedly raped by two villagers at Haringhata Reserve Forest in Barguna on Thursday.

The 13-year-old girl was admitted to a hospital in the district.

The suspects, phone top-up shopkeeper Jalil and boatman Altaf Hossain of Patharghata upazila, are absconding, said Hanif Sikder, officer-in-charge of Patharghata Police Station.

A case was filed with the police station yesterday accusing them.

The girl's elder brother said Jalil and his sister were acquaintances. He took his sister to the forest on Thursday morning and raped her.

Altaf later raped her.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the scene and rescued her, he said.

The girl's elder brother and mother alleged that they went to the police station on Thursday evening but the OC didn't want to record the case.

OC Hanif refuted the allegation, saying that they didn't go to the police station to file a case on Thursday.
