7 Ctg cops test positive for drugs
Seven police personnel of different units of Chattogram Metropolitan Police have tested positive in dope tests since the Bangladesh Police ordered all its units to test police personnel to identify members who use drugs.
Senior CMP officials said the process of dismissing the seven was underway and they had already been suspended.
CMP sources said the suspended policemen are from assistant sub-inspector rank to constable rank.
Seeking anonymity, a police official of CMP headquarters told The Daily Star, "We have conducted the dope test on 32 police personnel from SI rank to constable rank so far."
"The dope tests have been done at Dampara divisional police lines hospital after collecting samples from the policemen," he added.
CMP sources said information on such police personnel are being collected through their own intelligence and based on their suspicious behaviours. Suspects are later asked to give their samples at the hospital.
The hospital authorities collect urine and saliva from them and store these for dope tests, said the sources.
The test reports were later sent to the assistant commissioner (AC) (force) office of CMP from where the reports, if positive, were forwarded to high officials for the next course of action.
Contacted, Amena Begum, additional commissioner (admin and finance) of CMP, told this paper that seven policemen of CMP have so far tested positive.
"Their termination process is underway," she said, adding that the dope tests would continue.
