2 dancers, a singer land in jail over rape
Two local dancers and a singer in Bogura landed in jail yesterday in a case filed over the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl and attempted rape of another aged 13.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Nishkriti Hakidar passed the order in the afternoon hours after the father of the 14-year-old girl filed the case with the Bogura Sadar Police station, said Court Inspector Ashok Kumar Singh.
The accused are Raju Ahmed, 27, of Gaibandha Sadar upazila, Noyon Mia Shah, 30, of Bogura Sadar upazila, and Nisa Khatun Niha, 19, of Bogura town. They are performers of local dance groups.
According to the case statement, dancers Raju and Noyon knew the victims through Niha, a singer. On Friday night around 9:00pm, the two men asked the girls to come to Niha's home in Dattabari area of Bogura town.
After dinner, Raju raped the 14-year-old girl multiple times. Noyon tried to rape the other girl but failed. Both the girls managed to escape from the house and later told their parents what happened, said the statement.
After the case was filed yesterday, police arrested the three accused from different places of Bogura Sadar upazila, said SI Sohel Rana of the sadar police station, who is the investigation officer of the case.
He said the Niha was arrested on charge of assisting in the crime.
Police later produced them before the Bogura court, which sent them to jail.
The court also recorded the victim's statement.
They underwent medical tests at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical Hospital in the district, said Humayan Kabir, officer-in-charge of the police station, adding that they were waiting for the test results.
