Two children reportedly died after being hit by a footbridge when they were travelling on the roof of a train on Tuesday night.

Railway police recovered the bodies of the two unidentified street children, aged around 12, from the roof of “Subarna Express” at Chittagong Railway Station around 10:00pm. The train had reached the station from Dhaka.

Police also rescued a boy, Raihan, friend of the two, from the same place with an injury on his left hand.

Quoting Raihan, Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chittagong Railway Police, said the three got on the train's roof at Airport Railway Station in Dhaka and they were hit by the footbridge when the train was crossing Feni. Two died on the spot.

The deceased had head injuries, said the OC, adding that police admitted Raihan to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
