An example of courage
Born in an ordinary family, Miraz Sardar went through many ups and downs in life, but that made him more humane and courageous.
Miraz's bravery and humanity earned him “Faraaz Hossain Courage Award 2016”, introduced by PepsiCo Global in recognition of 20-year-old Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain who refused to desert his friends and was brutally killed by terrorists during the July 1 terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka.
Miraz chased and caught one of the assailants who hacked Ripon Chakraborty, a lecturer of Government Nazimuddin University College in Madaripur on June 15. He works as an office assistant at the college.
“I chased the attackers of Ripon sir out of humanity. I did not go for any gain. They could've killed me as well. Still I went,” said Miraz.
His father, Dulal Sardar, is a retired police officer. Miraz faced difficulties in pursuing his studies due to financial constraints. He was supposed to sit for SSC examinations in 1996 but he could not.
He joined the college with a monthly salary of Tk 400. His class-VIII certificates helped him get the job.
While continuing the job, Miraz carried on with his studies and passed SSC in 2002 from Bangladesh Open University. He passed HSC in 2004.
Now his monthly salary is Tk 5,000.
“I didn't do anything for a prize,” he said. However, the prize money would greatly help his family, as he said he would start treatment of his wife and mother-in-law.
“I would also like to do something for my parents.”
