Accused of maid murder still at large

Police are yet to arrest the killers of a domestic help in Trishal upazila headquarters, nine days into her killing.

Shirina, 18, daughter of day labourer Tofazzal Hossain of Birrampur village in the upazila, worked at the house of one Ifthekhar Newaz Apu, at Newaz Plaza in the area for 10 years.

On January 7, victim's father filed a case against Apu's wife Sohana Ifthekhar Lovely and his mother Jahanara Akhtar for their alleged involvement in the killing, said Trishal police.

The accused took the body of Shirina to her village home from their house in the town on January 6 and told her parents that she committed suicide.

Being informed, police went to Birrampur village, recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The alleged killers went into hiding, sensing the presence of law enforcers.

Shirina might have been strangled by her employers--Lovely and Jahanara-- as several injury marks were found in the neck and face, said Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station.

Police are raiding different areas to arrest the accused, said the OC.
