35-year-old who died at Shariatpur tested coronavirus negative

A 35-year-old man who died at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital on March 31, tested negative for coronavirus from the samples collected by IEDCR.

A report from the IEDCR today confirmed that the patient was not infected with coronavirus, Shariatpur civil surgeon Dr SM Abdullah Al Murad told The Daily Star.

On March 31, the man was admitted to the isolation ward of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital with severe breathing problems at 5:45pm. He died at around 9:30pm on the same day. The samples collected from the body was sent to the IEDCR for coronavirus testing.

Soon after the death, local administration put some 23 people of five families under lockdown at Cherag Ali Bepari Kandi village of Naria upazila in Shariatpur.

Five families were released from the lockdown as the man was not infected with coronavirus, Joyanti Rupa Roy, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Naria said.
