Eight flights delayed due to nor'wester

Eight domestic and international flights were delayed due to a nor'wester that lashed almost all parts of the country yesterday afternoon.

Hundreds of launches were stranded at Sadarghat Launch Terminal due to the stormy weather, causing sufferings to thousands of passengers mainly from the southern part of the country.

Airport sources said five international flights of Bangladesh Biman and two domestic flights and one flight of GMG Airlines were delayed for hours due to the bad weather.

Airport sources said the Biman flights for Karachi, Kolkata, Malaysia and UAE from Dhaka and Chittagong could not take off on time.

Besides, Biman flights on the domestic routes for Chittagong and Sylhet and a GMG flight for Jessore were also delayed by three to five hours.

Meanwhile, Sadarghat Launch Terminal sources said the authorities blew siren warnings the launches of not leaving the terminal in the inclement weather.

Many of the launches bound for Patuakhali, Barisal, Bhola, Chandpur and Char Fashion did not leave Sadarghat as of 6:30pm yesterday, sources added.
