20 Jamaat-Shibir men held over violence in Ctg
Police arrested 20 Jamaat-Shibir activists in Chittagong on the charge of violence before and during yesterday's hartal enforced by Jamaat-e-Islami.
Shibir men from a procession vandalised a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the city's Battery Goli around 1:00pm, said police.
Police held two Shibir activists instantly. Pickets also vandalised a bus in Mirjapool.
Earlier, seven Jamaat-Shibir activists were arrested in the city's Panchlaish, seven in Lohagara upazila and four in Satkania upazila over planning subversive activities.
Of them, Md Rifat was arrested with a locally made gun and three cartridges in Lohagara.
Vehicular traffic on almost all the city roads and train communications between Chittagong and other districts were normal, said police.
Jamaat enforced the dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, and the three hill districts after police recovered bomb making materials from the city's Jamaat office and arrested 21 party leaders, including city unit Ameer ANM Shamsul Islam, there on May 12.
