Nobel prize winner Dr Mohammad Yunus has been placed among the top ten most influential Bangladeshis in the world in a list compiled by London-based organisation British Bangladeshi Power and Inspiration.
The list also includes co-founder of YouTube Jawed Karim, founder of Brac Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, founder of Jaago Foundation Korvi Rakshand, founder of Khan Academy Salman Khan, lawyer Sara Hossain, cricketer Shakib Al Hassan, CEO of Medtronic Omar Ishrak, founder of Sumazi.com Sumaya Kazi and Everest climber Nishat Mazumder.
The list was made public yesterday in the Commonwealth room of British Parliament.
The list of 100 Bangladeshis who have had special contribution to the British social system was announced on the occassion.
The 2014 list of British Bangladeshi personalities was divided into 20 categories which include politics, business, media, sports, culture and celebrity.
The organisation also started a new category titled, People Choice, for the first time.
Bangla Daily Prothom Alo quoted politician Rushanara Ali, MP, who earned a spot in the list, saying, "British Bangladeshi Power and Inspiration is inspiring and recognising the role of Bangladeshis in Britain. I believe it will expand and influence the new generation."
British Bangladeshi Power and Inspiration has been publishing a list of hundred top influential Bangladeshis since 2012.
