Young man impersonating army held
A man impersonating an army official was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) while he was receiving a bribe in the capital's Khilgaon on Wednesday.
On information from the victim, a Rab-3 team arrested Arif Khan alias Jewel, 37, of Bagerhat.
They also seized an office bag of army, a seal bearing the name of Major Arafat of the army headquarters, six photos of Jewel wearing army winter coat with the insignia of a captain and Tk 17,000 from him.
The team later recovered a walkie-talkie, a toy pistol, a jacket of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and a pair of boot from his Boro Moghbazar residence.
During primary quizzing, Jewel said he had been masquerading as an army or police official for long to deceive people.
Earlier on January 1, he took Tk 13,000 from Hafez Maulana Md Yunus Ali, Imam of Khilgaon Tilpapara Jameh Mosque, said Rab officials.
Rab said a case against him was filed with Ramna Police Station last November 21. However, they did not disclose how Jewel had been blackmailing people for money.
