Woman stuck in Khagrachhari no man’s land for 4 days with no food
A woman, aged around 40, has been stuck in the no man's land along Bangladesh-India border in Khagrachhari's Ramgarh area for the past four days, as neither country has agreed to take her in yet.
She arrived from Sabroom, an Indian border town in Tripura, on Thursday morning and has remained there since, Lt Col Tariqul Hakim, commander of 43 BGB battalion, said quoting locals.
"A flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh [BGB] and India's Border Security Force [BSF] of the battalion and sector commander level was held on Thursday in this regard but we could not reach any solution," the commander told this correspondent.
BSF has denied to take the woman back, claiming she is not the citizen of India, Tariqul Hakim said.
We hung posters with her photo in the area hoping to find her relatives if she is from Bangladesh, the commander added.
Bishwa Pradip Kumar Tripura, chairman of Ramgarh upazila parishad, said, "The woman who has been stuck at the no man's land speaks Hindi fluently."
"It is very inhumane that the woman has been stranded there for the last four days while nobody gave her any food till Friday noon," said Ratan Buishnab Tripura, a local journalist.
Later, few locals from Ramgarh area gave her food.
Locals expressed hope that the BGB and BSF will solve the matter as soon as possible to save the woman from starvation.
"Since it is border-related issue, both BGB and BSF have to find a solution," said ANM Badruddoza, upazila nirbahi officer of Ramgarh upazila.
