War heroine Tarulata gets recognition
With Living Legends (WLL), a group working to spread the history of the Liberation War, yesterday accorded reception to war heroine Tarulata Ray, recognising her sacrifice for the first time.
Tarulata, then a 20-year-old pregnant housewife, was abducted from her village in Mongla, Bagerhat and tortured at a collaborator's house for five days before being rescued by a Muslim boy.
At a ceremony in capital's Liberation War Museum, a tearful Tarulata demanded punishment for the torturers responsible for her stillborn baby in 1971.
Dhaka University history professor Md Delwar Hossain donated her some money, and WLL promised to build her a small shop in Mongla next month.
